BirdLife Australia has just come out with this awesome app called Aussie Backyard Bird Count. It's the first nationwide bird survey in Australia, and you can totally be a part of it! Happens every October for a week during National Bird Week. All you gotta do is chill in your backyard, local park, or any cool green spot for just 20 minutes. By doing that, you're helping keep an eye on our bird population in Australia. Pretty rad, right?

To join in, all you gotta do is sign up with your name and email, pick your spot on the map, and start keeping tabs on them birds you spot. Oh, and the app even has a handy-dandy Field Guide to help you figure out what kind of bird you're looking at. Now, Australia's got about 800 different bird species, but this guide covers info on almost 400 of 'em. So when you're searching or typing in bird names, it's best to stick with more general terms for better results. Happy birding!

Even after the Bird Count is over, you can still use the Field Guide all year round to find out about different bird species in your area.
