The Virginia 511 app is like your ultimate travel buddy in Virginia! It brings together all the important stuff you need to know in one place. You've got official info from the Virginia Department of Transportation, driving and transit directions powered by Google, navigation with Waze, and a bunch of other useful sources. It's the perfect tool to keep you updated on everything while you're on the road in Virginia.

Just open the app, type in any place you want in the search bar, and boom! Google will show you how long it takes to drive or take public transportation to that spot. If you want more info, just tap on one of the options and Google will give you detailed directions. And if you're all about using Waze for navigation, just hit that Waze button and it'll take you there (but make sure you've got the Waze app installed first!).

You can find VDOT cameras, incident reports, construction updates, bridge openings, and more on the map. Just click on the overlays menu in the top right corner and toggle the options to see what you're interested in. If you want to change the order of the Map Layers in the menu, simply tap on the pencil icon.

The top left menu has all the cool stuff like Twitter feeds, route cameras, travel times for specific road sections, links to other commuter services in your area, and more. If you want to make any changes, just go to the bottom of the menu and click on settings. There, you'll find an option to sign up for trip notifications. These notifications are super handy because you can set up a regular trip and choose when you want to arrive, and then you'll get a notification telling you when it's time to leave based on the current traffic conditions. Just remember that traffic can change really quickly, so the travel and arrival times are just estimates and not guarantees.

In Northern Virginia, you can find more info on VRE trains and PRTC buses, like their schedules and routes. You can even track where VRE trains are in real-time! And here's a cool thing: if you select "Nearby Transit Options" from specific directions, you can see drive-to-transit choices for these services (although it's kinda limited). But hey, they're planning to add more agencies from all over the state soon! Oh, and don't forget, the app will keep getting better with more awesome features down the road.
