ChatterBaby is this cool app that uses math to figure out why your little munchkin is crying. It compares their sounds to a huge database of about 1,500 sounds and tells you if they're hungry, fussy, or in pain. The app is pretty good at spotting pain cries, getting it right about 85% of the time. Overall, it's about 90% accurate at recognizing any type of cry. But watch out for those fussy and whiny cries, they can trick the app sometimes. Oh, and make sure there's not too much noise in the background for the algorithm to work its magic!

The ChatterBaby thingy isn't some fancy medical gadget. Your brain and gut feeling are way more awesome than all those complicated equations. So, if the ChatterBaby app and your own instincts don't match up, always trust your gut. The app keeps your data safe on a HIPAA-compliant server, making sure it's hard to connect the info to you personally. Don't worry, chances are no human will ever listen to your baby's audio sample. It'll just go through some computer magic and get analyzed in a big spreadsheet for even more number crunching.

ChatterBaby doesn't come with any warranty, sorry. And just so you know, it's not meant to be used for keeping an eye on your baby from a distance. Our algorithm assumes that babies cry for three main reasons: when they're hungry, when they're fussy, or when they're in pain. So if your little one is bawling their eyes out because they really, really want to chew on some Legos and you won't let them, ChatterBaby won't be able to help. Here's a bummer: our algorithm might mistake separation anxiety cries for "pain". The quieter the environment is, the better the algorithm will work. So don't expect it to do its thing if you try feeding it a recording of you singing to your crying baby or your dog barking away.
