Piston is this awesome app that transforms your phone into a car scanner. All you need is an ELM 327 adapter, either Bluetooth or WiFi, and you can hook up your device to the OBD2 socket in your ride. Piston even helps you through the whole connection thing. Once you're linked up, you can check out and clear those pesky Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that follow the OBD2 rules, peek at Freeze Frame data, keep tabs on sensors in real-time, see how those Readiness Monitors are doing, and more. Just so you know, some of these fancy features cost a little extra with a single in-app purchase.

Just so you know, Piston works with OBD-II and EOBD standards. In the US, all cars sold since 1996 have to be OBD2 compatible. In the European Union, petrol cars have been required to use EOBD since 2001 and diesel cars since 2004. And in Australia and New Zealand, OBD2 is a must for petrol cars made after 2006 and diesel cars made after 2007. But keep in mind that this app can only access the data your car supports through the OBD2 standard.

In short, Piston is a cool app that turns your phone into a car scanner. It helps you figure out what's wrong with your car by connecting to the OBD2 socket using an adapter. Once connected, you can do all sorts of things like reading and clearing trouble codes, checking sensor data in real-time, and seeing how your readiness monitors are doing. Just remember, Piston only works with OBD-II and EOBD standards, so it can only access the data your car supports through the OBD2 system.
