Hey folks! Exciting news – the MyShake app is now giving earthquake early warning alerts in California, Oregon, and Washington. This awesome app was created by the UC Berkeley Seismology Lab and is backed by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. It's actually the very first app to provide statewide earthquake early warning alerts in California. Cool, right? The app is part of the California Earthquake Early Warning System and it's super handy. You can use it to get ready for, survive, and recover from big earthquakes. Just set your default alert location with HomeBase, customize notifications so you know when your loved ones are affected, and even get some safety tips. Stay safe out there!
Besides giving early warning alerts, the MyShake app lets users be citizen scientists and assist in measuring earthquake movement. It's available in English, Spanish (Español), Chinese Traditional (繁體中文), Filipino, Korean (한국인), and Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt). After experiencing a quake, users can also share their story with others and contribute to making their community better prepared for earthquakes.
All in all, the MyShake app is super useful for folks living in places where earthquakes are a thing. It gives you early warnings, tips to stay safe, and even lets you contribute to scientific research. You can grab the app on your iPhone or Android phone.
Want to be an earthquake detective? Well, guess what! You can totally use your phone to detect and record earthquakes! Cool, right?
